COMPETITION: Jenn Ashworth's A Kind of Intimacy

One of last year’s finds in the début category was Jenn Ashworth’s A Kind of Intimacy, a psychological thriller much in the vein of early Minette Walters.  See this post for more details on this wonderful book.  Now, in 2010, February 25th sees the publication of the paperback and Jenn has kindly offered a signed and dedicated copy.  To win it, leave a comment telling me how you feel you might relate to the protagonist, Annie.  I will pick the one I feel captures her character best.

As usual, a few rules apply (and I draw your attention to the last two in particular):

Closing date is midnight (British time) on Sunday 14 Feb.

I will pick the winner and contact them for their full name & address and dedication request in the following week.  This will be passed to the author for despatch of the book.

If you win and don’t respond by the same time on Sunday 21 Feb, I will offer the book to the next person.

I've not read the book, and the review doesn't tell me enough for me to know exactly how I'd relate to Annie: but one look at that cover tells me that Annie is a woman with a real body, and a short red dress just like the one I used to wear when I was younger and thinner and more confident. I want to read about Annie, and imagine wearing that red dress again.

I can relate to the lonely bit, although not obese I have a bit of a belly I want to shift. I'm in love with someone who I can't have. Sometimes I try so hard and it just never happens.. I'm also fighting to control a past that isn't my fault.

We all have a bit of Annie in us, which makes it easy to relate to someone like her. However successfully we live our lives, we must all have known, at some time, the crying out for human connection, as well as the unintentional twisting of logic for self-justification. I have known what it is like to have to work things out for myself, and the need to 'get it right', and could forgive the mistakes she makes in doing so.
