The Literary Review's 2009 Bad Sex in Fiction Award goes to...

...Jonathan Littell for The Kindly Ones.  The novel tells the story of the Holocaust through the eyes of one of the executioners.

In an interesting development this year, this is the first time the winning novel has been one in translation, as The Kindly Ones was originally written in French and was translated by Charlotte Mandell.  So for the first time, we can safely say that two pairs of hands were involved in the winning passages.  I wonder if this could lead to the consternation that developed at the CWA when crime in translation became so popular?  But at least the translator is recognised there.
