... to all you out there who care and are interested (and MANY thanks).
He is now at the vet's and his prognosis is not good. Indeed, I have to decide on his future life and there seems to be little hope.
I imagine that tomorrow, I will hold him in my arms while I let him go. And I hate the thought, but it has to be. I will not let my darling boy suffer more than he has to.
I will tell his wonderful story later.
The above pic is Oscar in his prime; the way I want to remember him and the best cat that I could ever have had. As I write, he is skin and bones, with no resources to fight an infection. I feel for him and dread tomorrow morning.
I'm sorry to hear that sad news.

Thanks Debi. I miss him so much. But I have to remember that if it had not been for me taking him in, his life would have been a lot shorter. When I took him in and got him back to health, our vet at the time said I could expect four further years from him. He achieved seven. He also brought a lot of joy to the last three years of my parents' lives.
Oscar was a wonderful, beautiful cat and very affectionate. He learned to trust again and relax, which was simply superb. He was spoilt to the nth degree, but I think he deserved it. He introduced me to cats, particularly Siamese and I learnt to love them as I had previously been a dog person.
Sometimes, as the old saying goes, things just fall into place. They did for Oscar - who deserved a better life - and for family crimefic, where he not only enriched my life but also those of my parents. They loved him too and I intend to scatter his ashes at their plot. There is no better place for him.
And yes, in addition to his photographs, I also have his portrait, something I treasure along with the memories. He was my "Beauty Boy".

Oh! I've only just caught this and heard the news. I can clearly picture you with the portrait of Oscar at Minx's launch in Cardiff. Thinking of you and sending love. xxx

It's a lovely picture, CFR - old Oscar looked like he was a right old charmer in his prime, and was very lucky to have found such a caring owner and led such a privileged life in his latter years.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I think of you in these sad moments. Having been in this situation I know that nothing really relieve the pain. Some moments will be worst than others. I just hope you'll remember and keep all the best memories of Oscar and bear in mind that thanks to you he had a wonderful life full of love.

Thanks all. Sadly Oscar deteriorated overnight and showed no signs of picking up in response to treatment. With the vet's help he was put to sleep at 12:45 today. I was able to have a few minutes with him before he departed. I am going to miss my gorgeous boy.

Thanks Pierre. I have just sobbed my heart out in a telephone convo with a fellow cat loving friend in Canada, but the tears have not yet dried up. I miss my darling boy tonight as he rests at the vet's. And I will miss him so much in the future.

I am very sorry about Oscar. Having read the previous post, it does sound as though you have done everything you could.
I really love cats, and my Tonkinese sleeps in my bed most nights. I will be thinking of you tomorrow.
