This year, I asked a handful of British & Irish crime novelists which novels they'd select as essential reading to be placed in the crime aficionado's stocking. Tastes vary widely, so there'll be something for everyone.
The authors who have kindly provided their selections include, to date:
Ann Cleeves, John Baker, Bernard Knight, Andrew Taylor, Chris Ewan, Donna Moore, Brian McGilloway, Declan Burke, Zoe Sharp, Matt Rees, Roger (R.N.) Morris, Steve Mosby, Margaret Murphy and more.
Each selection will drop in as a separate post; all to be released during the latter half of November.
We're almost there, so remember the red stocking logo please. It will feature on each post, to let you know it's the relevant author's pick of the year.
Looking forward to this CFR, excellent idea.

Thanks both for your comments!
Anne - there are some interesting newbies in there. Keep your budget flexible!
Norm - it was not intended as a tease, merely an introduction to the series ... Thanks for the positive comment, however! "Dark days in November" I am used to - as my birthday falls in the latter part of this month. I grew up noticing the dark nights, and where I lived, the local council's nativity display too. It was more than magical in my youth! I think it's the "why" from all those years ago that I now love dark nights and associate it with the run up to Christmas! Now, this always feels like my season!
At this juncture, I look forward to posting the thoughts of UK crime writers' picks. They are experts in the genre, so it will be bliss!

"all to be released during the latter half of November."
Not far off but you are teasing us with the wait. But your posts, as usual, will certainly brighten up the dark days of November.
