The Book Depository based in Gloucester has been selling through Amazon and continues to so do, but you can now buy through their own site and they've just expanded.
What's the good news for book buyers?
- Good prices.
- Free delivery to "current" shipping destinations, which includes worldwide shipping to destinations listed.
- Free delivery that is not dependent on a minimum order value.
- It carries 1.3 million titles in Gloucester, shipping to over 1 million customers.
- In the US it has 700,000 books that can be shipped from 8 centres.
- With an aim of making "all books available to all", uniquely, the company offers a print-on-demand reprint service for out-of-print titles, and has a republishing programme through its own Dodo Press and Asio Press imprints.
- Where it does not carry the stock, or if Amazon's price is cheaper, it has links to Amazon pages.
- Plans are afoot to ship from Germany in the future.
Following a tip from a friend who found the company on Amazon's market place and the service good, I have now bought from them a number of times, including academic texts. I can't fault the service.
One of the best things here is the policy of "all books available to all". So where you find an author you like and seek out their backlist, and are unable to find their books in the high street bookshops, there's a good chance you'll find them at The Book Depository and at a good price.
