I've been away on a little break to replenish my batteries. Nice it was, too. I heartily recommend Suffolk for a short break. In fact I recommend a longer break than I had; I wish I could have stayed longer...
It was also nice to return home and find a couple of interesting emails waiting for me. One was from author John Baker who says he has been reading this blog! John is a member of The Murder Squad, a "virtual collective of seven crime writers from the north of England..." John writes the Sam Turner and Stone Lewis novels and is an author I have yet to get around to reading, if I am honest. There's nothing like receiving an email like that to prompt me into action either! The Sam Turner books are based in York, a city I've visited a few times and it will be so interesting to read crime novels set there. That's more for me to look forward to in the future. John also writes a blog.
The other email told me that Mo Hayder is making an appearance at Waterstone's Piccadilly, 203-206 Piccadilly, London W1 on Wednesday April 16th at 7pm. Tickets cost £3 and are redeemable against a purchase of her latest novel "Pig Island" on the night. Tickets can be obtained by phoning 0207 851 2419 / 020 7851 2400. I am told that this "will be Mo's only London event, and only public event of this nature." The event is described as "The international bestselling thriller author of 'Tokyo' will be talking about and signing her terrifying new book 'Pig Island'".
I've been catching up on my reading, (not all during the last week), so I have a few crime books coming up for comment: Jim Kelly's "The Moon Tunnel"; John Sandford's "Broken Prey"; Simon Beckett's debut novel "The Chemistry of Death"; Jane Adam's "The Greenway"; Victoria Blake's "Bloodless Shadow" and Cody McFadyen's debut "Shadow Man". In the middle of all that, I also took a detour into the land of comedy and relationships, for a bit of light reading, enjoying John Famster's "Ladies Man". Plenty of posts coming soon then!
