John Lawton and the Troy series

John Lawton's US publisher - Grove/Atlantic - has recently been setting up author mini-sites on its own site.  You can find John Lawton's here.  The site includes an author bio, excerpts from the novels, information on tours, an essay from the author on Second Violin and a question & answer page.  Enjoy!

Actually, BAC, I think many here are now fed up with >10 years of so-called socialism and the result that has been left. As for Obama's comment, it has been reported here that he made a mistake. Not sure how it was reported in the US.

As for the Troy novels, I cannot comment on words spoken in history by one of your presidents or speak for the author. But when it comes to the novels, they make a fine body of work. I and quite a few people have enjoyed them and look forward to more. The author himself is on record as having no time for any politicians of any persuasion.

My husband recommended this book to me, but I will not read it until the author cites any occasion when our former US president ever used the terms kike, nigger, ayrab or towelhead. Unless these offensive remarks are supported by fact, they do not stand as 'Historical Notes', but as doggerel and borderline libel. It is a fact, however, and seems OK with many, for the current head of our nation to go on a late night talk show and make fun of the Special Olympics just to get a laugh. I hope you are enjoying socialism; we are not.

Just finished Second Violin. Excellent read. Only objection to it was the end stuff that really weakened the denouement. Better to leave it be, without the "historical note". The reader can have fun checking out the facts on her own.
Give us more of such good writing!

Hi Tom,
Whatever you enjoy for these novels, they are great reads and I am very happy to say so (many times). I'm looking forward to the next, as I always am!
All the best,
cfr

one of my top five favorites over the past few years.

i'm american, so maybe it's the british history i enjoy as well.

Oh you have some treats in store, Norm, as I don't think Riptide is his best at all... It's the one I loved less and consider the author slightly "off-form" on this one.

You are reading the series chronologically, I suspect? Black Out will get you overly enthused, I am sure. But perhaps reading in chronological order will also put another angle on things. I read the novels as they were published and therefore, not in chronological order. Perhaps doing so will shed another light on the series?

Above all, I hope you enjoy the series as I did, to date, and with more to come...

I look forward to the next with impatience and not baited breath!

Best,

CFR

Great stuff I am reading Riptide now and really enjoying it.
